Hair hacks for busy mom morning routine

Mornings can be such a rush and the last thing you have time is your hair, unfortunately. But, NO budget beauty mommy should look frumpy just because we are short on time. Here are some quick hair hacks that I follow to look well coiffed with the least time spent.

1. Tie your hair into a high bun and sleep with it. You'll wake up to lovely curls in the morning. Instant glamour to your bed head look.

2. During your morning shower, stay off shampoo and go straight for the conditioner. It makes hair really manageable and you can even get away with just towel drying. Say hello to very soft manageable hair.

3. If you're planning to tie your hair up the whole day and want to make it stay up, don't wash your hair in the morning. Your up do stays better that way. Bonus: don't need to use any hairspray.

4. Accessorize your updos with cutesy hair clips instead of boring bobby pins. Don't have to look matronly with an updo, budget beauty mommies can have some fun too.

5. Top hairstyles that stay up without having to touch up are French braids, French twist and high pony tails.

Tip: the best part of putting your hair in an updo the whole day is it creates gorgeous waves when you let it down in the evenings for an impromptu outing.

3 Surprisingly Easy Methods to Get White Fingernails

I really get annoyed when my fingernails turn yellow especially after prolong use of a darker shade nail polish. I have found three surprisingly easy and convenient ways to get whiter nails.

 1. Soak your nails in lemon juice for about 3-5 minutes and if needed scrub them with a baby toothbrush. Have you ever realized how white your nails are after you have squeezed fresh lemons or just by cutting and holding lemons? Say Yay to the whitening power of lemons! Oh, don't forget to moisturize your fingernails and hands with my Horse Fat Hand Cream.

2. Simply apply a base coat on your nails before applying your colored nail polish, so the color will not transfer to your nails.

3. Dab some Doterra lemon oil to your nails and scrub with a baby toothbrush. Beauty of this essential oil is, it's 100% natural and 100% pure lemon oil with no synthetics. Plus, you don't need to moisturize your fingernails after, as it's not drying like lemon juice.

Bonus: These 3 methods are so effortlessly convenient and easy and you get nice white nails. Nothing says polished like clean, white fingernails.

Happy Teacher's Day!

Happy Teacher's Day!

A teacher is not just one who teaches and educates us in schools and in universities.

A teacher is someone who has touched your heart. A teacher is a parent, family, precious darlings, friends and enemies, animals, rich or poor, strong or weak, old or young, kind or wicked. Each living sentient being is capable of teaching us something in life.

Even those who have hurt us is teaching us a valuable life lesson.

A big thank you to all teachers. You have made me who I am today and I'm grateful!

Recipe for Homemade Cinnamon Face Mask for Acne Prone Skin

This is probably one of the most effective and simple treatment DIY mask you can do at home - Cinnamon Face Mask. This mask is great for problematic blemished skin. This makes a good cleansing mask once a week just to keep your skin cleansed thoroughly.

Ingredients:
1tsp cinnamon powder
1tsp baking soda (to thicken the mask up)
1 tbsp honey

Mix well and leave on for 15 minutes. You may feel slight burning due to the cinnamon but it goes away quickly. If you have very sensitive skin, add more honey.

Wash face after mask with warm water.

Try the mask 3 times a week.

Budget beauty mommy loves this because it's 100% natural, its effective on acne flare ups and it's cheap and cheerful and you probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen conveniently.

Bonus: the mask smells and tastes great like a pie. Yeah, sometimes I just can't help tasting it 😉

How to Teach Kids to Enjoy Learning and Focus

Getting our little darlings to pay attention and focus on a task can be challenging. Our little darlings are so curious and easily distracted especially when we're trying to teach them something. It's not a bad thing at all, as it shows they are intelligent and curious about their surroundings.

A little trick I use is to time the task. Just put on the timer for 2 mins to begin initially. When our little darlings successfully focused for two mins for the task, reward them with their favorite food or toy.

Love and patience are best teachers! Slowly increase task to 3 mins, 4 mins till desired time.

Why do I start with 2 mins? Because it's very easily achievable and it boosts confidence of our little darlings.

Bonus: Our little darlings learn they have to put in effort to enjoy rewards. It builds a trusting bond with our little darlings. Any normal boring task ends up a fun game with tasty and rewarding rewards without any stress or pressure. And most importantly, it makes learning fun and stress free, which is a wonderful habit to instill in our little darlings. 😘

What are your tips to teach your little darlings, budget beauty mommies? Please share, would love to learn from you!

Best Drugstore Shampoo and Conditiner

I seem to be having problems with shampoos and conditioners. They seem to work for awhile then they just stop working its magic. It's a constant tedious search for the right ones for me, with very fine hair.

My current love is Watson's Arome Fresh Bouncy. It's not too heavy and gives volume to my hair. Smells subtle but refreshing.

Bonus: it's paraben and sulfates free. It's also enriched with four natural oils. The less chemicals the more I love. Think it's important that pregnant mommies and nursing mommies have as little contact with chemicals as possible. It also comes in a generous 550ml very pretty bottle which lasts for months.

5 Avocado Recipes for Picky Eaters!

Avocados are so healthy with all the good fats and protein. But it's an acquired taste and most of our little darlings don't really fancy it. Here are 5 ways to sneak avocado in without protests!

1. Ok this is obvious to our kids but the taste is spectacular. Cut avocado in half, dice it and serve with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Really tangy and tasty, not forgetting healthy.

2. Use it as a spread instead of butter on toast and crackers. Then layer on your favourite toppings.

3. Guacamole is such a healthy dip. Pair it with celery and veggie sticks. Ok if the little darlings insist, add in some cheese sticks and crisps too. 😉

4. Try a summer avocado fruity salad. Slice them thin and it really brings out the taste of the fruit and veggies. Add a healthy vinaigrette instead as dressing.

5. Instead of mayonnaise on your sandwiches and burgers, try avocado slices instead. They add a nice creamy flair to your sandwiches and burgers.

Beef Cauliflower Fried Rice Recipe - Gluten Free Recipe

Thinking of cooking dinner tonight?

Try my beef cauliflower fried rice - an alternative to fried rice. It's gluten free and who says gluten free food has to be bland and boring? To substitute soya sauce with a gluten free alternative, try Tamari Sauce instead. Just as tasty!

Tip: Instead of using rice, substitute with roughly blended cauliflower. The texture is almost similar.

Bonus: you get your kids to eat more vegetables without any fuss.

Clever Potty Training Hack

Budget beauty mommies, do you face challenges with your precious darlings wetting their beds at night?

Don't fret, just sprinkle baking soda over the wet parts of the mattress and let it soak up the wetness. I add a few drops of my favourite Doterra Lavender Oil to freshen up the mattress. Wait for a few hours and vacuum it all up. The best part is, you don't need to lug your heavy mattress to sun it anymore.

Bonus: you can still bedtime potty train your precious darlings - stress free! Your precious darlings will have more confidence with bedtime potty training when they know mommy is not stressed.

Priceless moments: Waking up to happy and confident precious darlings! 😍

Brainfood to Grow our Kids' Brains

Our precious darlings need lots of good fats to grow their brains.

I try to give avocados, oily fish like salmon and mackerel; olives, nut butters and seeds and lots of organic virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil to increase the good fats.

One tip: sometimes our little darlings can develop food allergies if we give them a certain food everyday. So rotate their food every four days instead.

Bonus: With more good fats, it helps budget beauty mommies to stay calm everyday and have beautiful supple skin!

Most Effective Essential Oil to Combat Haze

The haze is back 😢

Are your little darlings suffering from stuffy nose, cough and sore throat?

I use this fantastic essential oil respiratory blend called Breathe from Doterra. It really relieves stuffy nose very, very well.

Method of usage:
1 Rub it gently on the chest. Apply some lightly on the throat to relief cough. This amazingly opens up the air passage.
2. Add 3 drops in the diffuser and sleep with it at night or whenever you or your little ones have congestion.

Bonus: it smells fantastic. Your whole room smells beautiful.

It's a marriage saver as it also helps with snoring. You no longer need to push your other half to the side when he starts snoring.

How to Do Oil Pulling Correctly

Just tried oil pulling today. It's a traditional Ayurvedic way to pull toxins out of your body. It's relatively simple and affordable to try.

Method:
Just take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and gargle for 15-20 mins. Expel out all the oil at the end. Brush your teeth immediately to get all the toxins out. Do this for two weeks for it to be effective.
It should be done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Sounds easy right? But do remember, the oil grows bigger as you keep it longer in your mouth, so it's quite a mouthful at the end.

Some tips from my experience:
1. Don't gargle vigorously as it's very tiring and 15 mins feels like an eternity.
2. Oil pull when you're preparing breakfast for family so time passes quickly and you won't be too conscious about it. I usually like to wake up slightly earlier while I get everything ready before family wakes up.
3. Expel your coconut oil entirely and don't swallow it as you're ingesting your toxins again. Defeats the whole purpose of oil pulling.
4. Expel into the toilet instead because it may clog up your sink.
Extra bonus:
5. Your family may be very happy as you can't nag them with your mouth full of oil for 15-20 mins 😉

Purpose of oil pulling:
1. Healthier gums and teeth.
2. Eliminates bad breath
3. Reduces toxins in our body
4. Helps to improve skin problems
5. Reduces aches in the body due to toxin accumulation

How to detangle hair without tears!

When I was a little girl, I had only two Barbie dolls. Needless to say, I loved them to death, literally. I brushed their hair so hard that I accidentally yanked their heads off. Bawling my eyes out, my uncle managed to fix their heads back. But, still traumatized by it.

Fast forward decades later, I sometimes have flashbacks of accidentally yanking heads off when brushing my lovely tot's tangled hair. I must have done something right but I found Tangle Teezer and its a life saver. It combs through tangles so fast and smoothly without needing a detangler serum.

You can find it at www.tangleteezer.com

Bonus: it makes a nice and quick head massage for Budget Beauty Mommy for a quick boost of circulation to my head and long tresses.
